The University of Rwanda received various energy instruments in framework of SUCCEED Network; an East African Higher Education Network on Sustainable and Energy Efficient Campus Development. The instruments will serve to regulate and audit the efficient use of energy in University Colleges and Campuses.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nelson Ijumba, the University Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research who officially received the instruments highlighted the fact that they will serve to make energy audit at different campuses of the University of Rwanda in view of putting in place some strategies regarding energy savings.
The University of Rwanda is part of a consortium of five University East African Universities and one European University which is the lead partner. Those are: Moi University (Kenya), Makerere University (Uganda), Mzumbe University (Tanzania), University of Burundi, University of Rwanda and the University of Alicante (Spain). The Network called SUCCEED Network – East African Higher Education Network on Sustainable and Energy Efficient Campus Development is a project funded by the European Union through Edulink II.

The objective of the project is to promote East African university campuses as “living laboratories” for sustainability energy and efficiency. University campuses and Higher Education Institutions in general have a great potential to become key players to promote sustainability and energy efficiency, starting with their own campuses.
Specifically the project seeks to establish a sustainable campus development platform to foster collaborative learning and action for energy access and efficiency. Top level management staff will be targeted to increase awareness and improve institutional frameworks with regard to campus energy access and efficiency. Increased academic co-operation between the universities via an on-line platform on energy efficiency and renewable energy is intended to enhance the capacity of academic staff to modernize their educational programmes and increase the courses on offer in renewable energy.
